HOW TO GET HIRED WITHOUT EXPERIENCE

This morning i opened my email acclunt and this is one of the mails i recieved.

Hello aunty Oluchi,

I have been reading your blog posts for sometime and have been following the guidelines. It has really helped me.

I graduated from the university two years ago and completed my compulsory NYSC last year. Since then I have applied to few jobs. Recently,i applied for an engineering job but the problem is that i lack the seven years experience they need.

Please advice me on what to do because I believe I have the skills needed and I really want to work for that company.

Thank you.

It is noted that entry level job seekers face the problem of loosing a job because they lack the experience needed. This bring up the question most fresh graduates usually ask;if they didn't hire me because I lack the experience they needed, how can I gain the experience?

As a job seeker, always bear in mind that everyone started with no experience including that interviewer.

To help job seekers who are faced with the sam problem, here are basic tips that can help you beat that norm of experience.

  • Embracing reality
Applying for entry level jobs is good as a fresh graduates because you won't be expected to present a CV filled with experiences. If you desire that job that need experience in the field,I recommend you embrace and highlight your skills, dedication, curiosity and commitment to learning and growth. an interviewer seeing this qualities in you stand you a chance of being hired.
  • Establish a link
As a job seeker, when applying for a job you believe you are capable and have what it takes to be in that position but lacking the experience is another game.

So check the formal and informal experiences you have with the job and connect yourself to it. Once this is done, it is easy to convince an interviewer to hire you.
  • Emphasize on your soft skills
Check and discover that skills you have that stands you out from the rest. Display qualities like friendliness, professionalism and responsive. These soft skills go a long way because they can't be taught.
  • Know your worth
Market yourself and display any skill you've developed in other areas of your life. Experience must not come from traditional jobs.
  • Balance confidence with beginners mind .
Appearing confident during a job interview is good but it should be laced with humility and modesty. Make the employer see that you can do the job and also willing to learn.
  • Keep learning
Broadening your educational qualification can stand you a chance of being hired. Enrol in professional courses, special training courses. Research and read in your field of interest.

The points listed above I believe will increase your chance of being hired even when you lack the experience.
